Visiting Russia

Border inspection is a routine inspection of people entering a country by border guards in accordance with the laws of that country, and is an exercise of sovereignty by a country. Entrants should respect the laws of that country, cooperate actively and accept the inspection. The main purpose of the border control is to check the authenticity and validity of the passport and visa held by the entrant.

If you are entering Russia by plane via Moscow International Airport, you should step off the plane into the lounge, fill out the immigration card (or the border control officer will fill it out) and go to the designated border control entrance as soon as possible to wait for the inspection.

At the border control window, the entrant should take the initiative to check his passport and other relevant documents with the Russian border control officer. When the border inspector has checked and approved the passport and visa, he/she will stamp the passport with the entry and date stamp, return it to the entrant and open the door to grant entry. The border control officer will usually ask the purpose of entry (an answer of study abroad is sufficient). After checking and stamping the entry stamp in the passport, all documents are returned. At this point, special care must be taken not to leave your passport, passenger entry declaration form, yellow book of health examination and belongings with you at the entry inspection window.

At this point, the entrant receives the passport and visa and should check whether the passport has an entry stamp and whether the date of entry on the stamp matches the actual date. Once you find a problem, you should immediately negotiate and try to solve it on the spot. If it is confirmed, you can push open the door and enter the hall. At this point, the student entering Russia has passed the border control and entered the Russian territory in accordance with the legal procedures.

Customs formalities

Immediately after entering the Russian territory, you should look for and pick up your checked luggage from the rotating conveyor belt under the "indicator" marked with your flight number. Then ask for a customs declaration form and fill it out carefully.

There are several kinds of "customs declaration forms" in Russian, English and French. Here is only the Russian "customs declaration" as an example, a brief explanation of the issues that should be noted when filling out

(A) Russian customs do not require a separate entry for cameras and other electrical appliances brought in by the entrant in the "customs declaration". Therefore, they can be left out.

(B) Russian customs strictly control foreign currency (hard currency: U.S. dollars, British pounds, francs, German marks, Japanese yen, etc.) brought in and taken out by the entrant, so the entrant must report the amount of foreign currency brought in truthfully to avoid detention and confiscation of foreign currency due to non-reporting. Renminbi is not a hard currency and may not be reported.
